2010 Annual Show
18th and 18th of November
The 69th Annual Cage Bird Show was held on November 18th and 19th, at the Orkney Auction Mart Kirkwall. Another respectable entry ensured a sucsessful show. There were several new poultry exhibitors which was good to see. After the increased poultry entry last year, the Cage Birds Society purchased a further 50 large poultry cages which were needed.

The Poultry Judge, Danny McCarthy, from Thurso, Praised the standard of entries and had no hesitation in selecting a Black Astralorp Cockerel, From Donald A MacIsaac as the Overall Poultry Champion.
The reserve came from his son, Donald T MacIsaac in the shape of a Mallard Call Duck. Between them they secured the majority of the poultry awards

The Canary Judge, Brian Bremner travelled from Alness. He was very impressed by how well the show was organised and with the standard of the exhibits. The honours went to M & M Thomson taking the Best Canary in Show with a Border Canary for the Second year in a row.

The Best British Bird was again won by Graham Beck and the Foreign Bird Section was won by Margaret Thomson showing her finches for the first time.
Bryan Taylor, with his Cobalt Blue Budgie, also took top spot in the Budgie Section for the second year running. The judge Davie Scott, who has recently moved back to his native Orkney, was disappointed with the small entry but pledged to swell the numbers next year when he will commence showing.

The Racing Pigeons were Judged by Mike Riches from Stronsay, who awarded the top spot to a Racing Pigeon from Herbert Mackenzie.The Remainder of the Racing Honours went to J W Ross from Tankerness, with a young Racing Pigeon which really impressed the Judge.
Dougie Bald for Edinburgh Judged the Fancy Pigeon Entry which has increased from last year and the honours were well spread, with the Society President Jim Wilson taking Honours with a home breed Modena. Young Chelsea Bain from Thurso did well taking three cups with her Show Racers.
The Supreme Champion this year came from the Poultry Section it was Donald A MacIsaac who unanimously took the top spot with the reserve being awarded to Herbert's Pigeon.

On Saturday it was the turn of the Rabbits and Cavies. The winner was Melissa Cormack, who won Best Rabbit and Best Cavy. Willie Stewart, the Judge gave her black rez doe top spot due to the quality of her coat.
