Canaries

 

About Us:

This is our sixth year with canaries, We started with two pair of Yorkshire Canaries from local breeders Arthur and Liz Eccles. Then we got four pair of Fife Fancy Canaries from another local breeder Billy Brown.

Bird Room:

Our Bird Room is of wooden construction fourteen foot long x five foot wide made of a two inch x two inch frame insulated, with shiplap weather boarding on outside. Inside is clad with quater inch ply painted with blue gloss paint. It has two opening windows with two extrator fans to circulate the air. The shed holds four treble breeders and six double breeders giving a total of twenty four individual cages. At either end of the shed there are two flight cages four foot x three foot.

Breeding:

We bred from six pair of fifes this year gaining over thirty youngsters. We bred from four pair Yorkshire's getting a total of 11 youngsters. One hen is still siting on four eggs so fingers crossed.

Feeding:

We use standard mixed canary seed all year round with added green food ie. broccoli, lettuce, apple, carrots, chick weed etc. Breeding time soft food is fed a mixture of EMP with cous-cous, dried carrot, condtioning seed, pinhead oatmeal and Pro Boost Super Max added.
